Mike Gravel: We must have a new 9/11 Investigation

Former Alaska senator and 2008 presidential candidate Mike Gravel is holding a news conference in New York City today to call for a new independent investigation into 9/11. Gravel will be speaking on behalf of the NYC 9/11 Ballot Initiative Campaign, a grassroots group seeking to place an initiative on the ballot of the November 6th general election allowing registered New York City voters to create a new commission to investigate 9/11.

The group is looking to appoint between nine and fifteen commissioners on the panel to conduct the investigation. Some of the people who have reportedly already agreed to serve as commissioners include Lori Van Auken, a 9/11 widow, one of the so-called "Jersey Girls"; Lincoln Chafee, the former Republican senator from Rhode Island; Bishop Thomas Gumbleton, a pastor in Detroit, Michigan; as well as former Democratic Senator Mike Gravel, who joins us here today.

He has published three books this year: Citizen Power: A Mandate for Change, The Kingmakers: How the Media Threatens Our Security and Our Democracy and A Political Odyssey. His book Citizen Power: A Mandate for Change has a forward by Ralph Nader. He'll be joining us on the show later

Imposters posing as ExxonMobil and National Petroleum Council (NPC) representatives delivered an outrageous keynote speech to 300 oilmen at GO-EXPO, Canada's largest oil conference, held at Stampede Park in Calgary, Alberta, today.

The speech was billed beforehand by the GO-EXPO organizers as the major highlight of this year's conference, which had 20,000 attendees. In it, the "NPC rep" was expected to deliver the long-awaited conclusions of a study commissioned by US Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman. The NPC is headed by former ExxonMobil CEO Lee Raymond, who is also the chair of the study.

Daihatsu UFE-II & Toyota ES3 100 MPG Concept Cars

We the Sheeple are being fleeced even more than we were in the 1950's when the fantasy cars were built to attract the perfect woman and built with plenty of horsepower to pump up the ego of "the macho man" .
But there was a market for more fuel efficient cars and the US manufacturers complied by coming up with a line of small cars that got respectable milage like the Hudson Hornet and the Nash Metropolitan. Imports, of course, were more fuel effecient yet with VW leading the pack for sales. They continued using their air cooled motor untill the 1970's with virtually no improvements except for more power and less milage. Dr. Porsche had it figured out many years ago that cooling a motor with a radiater was not efficient, and if the air cooled concept was improved it would undoubtedly be so effecient that the corporate government would step in and cart such obselete means of propulsion off to the scrap yard before someone got the bright idea of using ceremic pistons and barrels for high temperature effeciency. After-all, just the very idea of not needing antifreeze would tip off the oil lobbyists to grease the gears of our representatives in government.

The UFE-II (which stands for "Ultra Fuel Economy") first debuted at the 2001 Tokyo Motor Show, and it was displayed once again at the 2003 event.

The vehicle benefits from an ultra-lightweight aluminum and resin body, giving it an impressive 129 MPG fuel efficiency rate. Daihatsu has labeled the UFE-II an Advanced Safety Vehicle (ASV), and as such it includes "braking for reducing collision impact, full-range speed control for following a proceeding vehicle, speed control for curve negotiation and a lane-deviation warning system."

The UFE2 hybrid has been verified as the world's most efficient four-seater with the lowest ever recorded drag coefficient of 0.19 Cd.

Standing for ‘Ultra Fuel Economy' – the aluminium and composite-bodied minicar weighs only 570 kg and has a pleasingly tapered, teardrop shape with twin gull-wing doors hinged in the centre of the roof.

The spacious four-seat interior is equally futuristic, with a central control unit housing all the major controls including a steer-by-wire system which replaces the conventional steering wheel.

Power is via a low-polluting three-cylinder 660 cc direct-injection petrol engine linked to a compact, lightweight generator and permanent electric motor.

The UFE2's secondary batteries are advanced nickel-metal hydride and the gearbox is an automatic CVT (continually variable transmission).

Strictly monitored tests have recorded an astonishing 170 mpg-plus for the UFE2 – equivalent to travelling 60 km on one litre of fuel.

Gregory Canavan & terrorism preparedness for FDNY

Well, in a previous post about the Task Force for Terrorism Preparedness, a physicist by the name of Gregory H. Canavan was shown to be a member of the panel, along with James Woolsey et al, all of whom seemed overqualified for a panel of this nature. So naturally I had to read about who he is and what he does, which shows that he has way too much stuff going to be bothered with being an advisor to a panel on just terrorism preparedness.

Gregory H. Canavan is a nuclear physicist at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Mr. Canavan has participated in the Defense Science Board Study of "Transnational Terrorism" and has served on various committees, including the Army Science Board, the Air Force Space Command Independent Strategic Assessment Group, the NASA Earth Systems Science and Applications Advisory Committee, and the White House Science Council Military Committee. He is also a former Director of the Office of Inertial Fusion at the U.S. Department Of Energy and a former Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force.

What is Inertial Fusion?

WARSAW — Despite fierce opposition from Moscow, the United States and Poland signed a long-stalled agreement Wednesday to place an American missile defense base on Polish territory.

The Kremlin has leveled sustained criticism against the American plan, characterizing it as a hostile act near the Russian border. But American officials insist that the system will defend against threats from countries like Iran and would not target Russia.

“Missile defense, of course, is aimed at no one,” said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice who signed the agreement in Warsaw with her Polish counterpart, Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski. “It is in our defense that we do this.”

Why should Russia be concerned by this development?

Well, in the months leading up to the invasion of Iraq, the Bu$h administration scrambled to pull together a "coalition of the willing", and simultaneously negotiated and financed an unprecedented multibillion-dollar arms deal with Poland - a compact that promised to funnel at least $6 billion in U.S. investments into the former Warsaw Pact nation, which has become one of the United States' primary wartime supporters.

On December 27th, 2002 the Polish government decided on to buy rather than lease up to 48 F-16 new fighter aircraft from Lockheed-Martin. The major element in this deal was an offset agreement, between Lockheed-Martin and the Polish government, called "Peace Sky".

The contract was signed on April 18th, 2003, for $3.5 billion, the biggest defense contract by a former Soviet bloc country since the end of the Cold War. The purchase contract also includes spare engines, missiles and bombs as well as technical details and the terms of training for Polish pilots. The aircraft will be built in Fort Worth, Texas, and deliveries started in 2006. which seen an amount of up to $9 billion return in the Polish economy. Major projects included plans by General Motors to expand a plant in Gliwice, Poland, and a pledge by Motorola to invest in a state-of-the-art communication system for Polish public services.

To date, the central European country has received 41 of the 48 F-16s it has on order, and is rapidly increasing its number of qualified pilots with help from seasoned instructors at the 162nd Fighter Wing based at Tucson International Airport.

WASHINGTON DC- The Bush administration appears to have pulled off its latest military fiasco in the Caucasus. What was supposed to have been a swiftly and painless takeover of rebellious South Ossetia by America’s favourite new ally, Georgia, has turned into a disaster that left Georgia battered, Russia enraged, and NATO badly demoralized. Not bad for two days work.

Equally important, Russia’s Vladimir Putin swiftly and decisively checkmated the Bush administration’s clumsy attempt last week to expand US influence into the Caucasus, and made the Americans and their Georgian satraps look like fools.

We are not facing a return to the Cold War - yet. But the current US-Russian crisis over Georgia, a tiny nation of only 4.6 million, and its linkage to a US anti-ballistic missile system in Eastern Europe, is deeply worrying and increasingly dangerous.

On 7 August, Georgia’s president, Mikheil Saakashvili, ordered his US and Israeli-advised and equipped army to invade the breakaway region of South Ossetia, which has been struggling for independence from Georgia since 1992. Most of its people were Russian citizens who wanted union with Russian North Ossetia.

If not directly behind Georgia’s invasion of South Ossetia, Washington had to have been at least fully aware of Saakashvili’s plans. The Georgian Army was trained and equipped by US and Israeli military advisors stationed with its troops down to battalion level. CIA and Israel’s Mossad operated important intelligence stations in Tbilisi and coordinated plans with the Saakashvili, whose political opponents have long accused him of being very close to CIA and the Pentagon.

Georgia’s attack on South Ossetia was launched while the world was absorbed by the Beijing Olympics, and Prime Minister Putin was in the Chinese capital. The attack was clearly planned to be a lightening strike that would occupy all of South Ossetia and then Abkhazia before Moscow could react, presenting the Kremlin with a fait accompli.

Who in Bush’s or Cheney’s office approved this stupid adventure? Why did the very smart Israelis get sucked into this imbroglio?

Dear Colin,
You have said you regret the "blot" on your record caused by your parroting spurious intelligence at the U.N. to justify war on Iraq. On the chance you may not have noticed, I write to point out that you now have a unique opportunity to do some rehab on your reputation.

If you were blindsided, well, here's an opportunity to try to wipe off some of the blot. There is no need for you to end up like Lady Macbeth, wandering around aimlessly muttering, Out damn spot…or blot.

It has always strained credulity, at least as far as I was concerned, to accept the notion that naiveté prevented you from seeing through the game Vice President Dick Cheney and then-CIA Director George Tenet were playing on Iraq. And I was particularly suspicious when you chose to ignore the strong dissents of your own State Department intelligence analysts who, as you know, turned out to be far more on target than counterparts in more servile agencies.

It was equally difficult for me to believe that you thought that, by insisting that shameless George Tenet sit behind you on camera, you could ensure a modicum of truth in your speech before the U.N. Security Council. You were far savvier than that.

That is certainly the impression I got from our every-other-morning conversations in the mid-80s, before I went in to brief the President's Daily Brief to your boss, then-defense secretary Casper Weinberger, one-on-one. I saw the street smarts you displayed then. They were familiar. I concluded that they came, in part, from the two decades you and I spent growing up in the same neighborhood at the same time in the Bronx.

On those Bronx streets, rough as they were, there was also a strong sense of what was honorable – honorable even among thieves and liars, you might say. And we had words, which I will not repeat here, for sycophants, pimps, and cowards.

Your U.N. speech of February 5, 2003 left me speechless, so to speak – largely because of the measure of respect I had had for you before then. Outrage is too tame a word for what quickly became my reaction and that of my colleagues in Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS), as we watched you perform before the Security Council less than six weeks before the unnecessary, illegal attack on Iraq.

The purpose – as well as the speciousness – of your address were all too transparent and, in a same-day commentary, we VIPS warned President George W. Bush that, if he attacked Iraq, "the unintended consequences are likely to be catastrophic."

That's history. Or, as investigative reporter Ron Suskind would say, "It's all on the record." You have not yet summoned the courage to admit it, but I think I know you well enough to believe you have a Lady Macbeth-type conscience problem that goes far beyond the spot on your record. With 4,141 American soldiers – not to mention hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens – dead, and over 30,000 GIs badly wounded, how could you not?

Bu$h doesn't appear to be giving his fellow War President any support at this time, while U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, while noting that "President Musharraf has been a good ally," said Sunday that Washington was not considering granting him asylum.

"That's not an issue on the table, and I just want to keep our focus on what we must do with the democratic government of Pakistan," Rice told Fox News.

But maybe a little more challenged by Shabtai Shavit. Mr. Shavit served as Director of the Mossad, the Israeli Intelligence Agency responsible for intelligence collection, covert action, and counter-terrorism. Chief Nigro retired shortly but remained as an advisor.

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta today announced that former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency R. James Woolsey will serve as Chief Advisor to the newly created FDNY Terrorism Preparedness Taskforce. The Taskforce will examine and evaluate the FDNY's terrorism preparedness capabilities and will comprise a panel of leading nationally and internationally renowned experts on terrorism, including: Gregory H. Canavan, a nuclear physicist at the Los Alamos National Laboratory; Margaret Hamburg, a former New York City Health Commissioner; Dr. Joshua Lederberg, a winner of the Nobel Prize in Physiology; Daniel Nigro, Chief of Department for the FDNY; and Shabtai Shavit, a former Director of Israel's intelligence agency Mossad. Following the announcement, Mr. Woolsey and Commissioner Scoppetta joined FDNY chief officers and personnel in a visit to the quarters of Hazardous Materials Unit 1 and Squad Company 288 in Queens, for a presentation on the units' responsibilities, capabilities, and needs.

"The events of September 11th clearly demonstrated the critical role of our firefighters and emergency medical service personnel in responding to terrorist attacks," Mayor Bloomberg said. "R. James Woolsey and his fellow members of the Terrorism Preparedness Taskforce possess a unique understanding of and a broad experience in counter-terrorism that will help the FDNY to identify and implement measures to enhance its ability to respond to potential strikes against our City."

"I can't think of anyone better qualified to help drive our thinking on these issues than Jim Woolsey," Commissioner Scoppetta said. "He has worked on both terrorism and defense-related issues under four U. S. Presidents, and possesses a depth and scope of knowledge that is truly unparalleled. Joining him on this task force are several extraordinary individuals each of whom have achieved great success in their respective careers, and bring to the table some of the best minds we could hope to have for this extremely important purpose."

"The Committee will bring together experts from the military, leading academic and research institutions, the fire service and medicine," Mr. Woolsey said. "Our mission will be to evaluate and assess risk, and to look at the infrastructure and core competencies of the Department in the light of that risk. Then we will help develop strategies for ensuring that the FDNY is as equipped as possible to protect its members and the citizens of New York against whatever may arise."

R. James Woolsey is Vice President at Booz Allen & Hamilton in the Global Strategic Security division of the firm, which is providing his service on a pro bono basis. Mr. Woolsey previously was Director of the Central Intelligence Agency under President Clinton, arms control negotiator under Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush, and Under Secretary of the Navy for President Jimmy Carter. He has also served as General Counsel to the Senate Arms Services Committee, and worked on the National Commission on Terrorism and the National Academies' Committee on Science and Technology for Countering Terrorism.

Gregory H. Canavan is a nuclear physicist at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Dr. Hamburg, whose areas of expertise include public health and bio-terrorism, is a former Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, a former New York City Health Commissioner, and a former Assistant Director of the Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institute of Health

Dr. Joshua Lederberg is President-emeritus and Sackler Foundation Scholar at the Rockefeller University in New York. Dr. Ledenberg received the Nobel Prize in Physiology at the age of 33 for his work and research on microbial genetics and evolution. He has also received the National Medal of Science with a special citation for providing scientific insight to public interest, government, and international organizations, and has been actively involved in assessing the threats of biological warfare and the ways to mitigate these threats.

Daniel A. Nigro became the FDNY's 29th Chief of Department in September 2001, following the World Trade Center attack that claimed the life of 343 members of the Fire Department and was responsible for leading the 14,500 Fire and EMS personnel in the world's largest Fire Department. During his career, Chief Nigro has earned some of the Department's most prestigious awards, including the Fire Commissioner's Award for Outstanding Service and the Leon Lowenstein Award. He was the first Bureau Chief to oversee the merger of the FDNY with EMS, and has also served as Chief of Personnel, Chief of Health Services, Chief of Operations, and Citywide Tour Commander, overseeing all major emergencies throughout the City. Chief Nigro will retire from the FDNY on September 9th, having served 33 years in the Department.

Shabtai Shavit is the Chairman of the Institute for Counter-Terrorism at the Interdisciplinary Center in Herziya, Israel. From 1989 to 1996, Mr. Shavit served as Director of the Mossad, the Israeli Intelligence Agency responsible for intelligence collection, covert action, and counter-terrorism. He served in a variety of posts within the Mossad for over 30 years and also served in the Israeli Defense Force's elite Sayeret Matkal unit. Mr. Shavit has obtained degrees from the Hebrew University and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Ah, the Majestic 12 documents, I remember reading about them in the 1950's but never really seen any evidence. These sure look authentic, but like every other thing on the innertubes there are folks who call themselves debunkers just like the ones that were denying the existence of UFO's in the old days. Project Bluebook if I remember it correctly. It filed most of the reports where they couldn't be seen or explained them away as weather balloons, ball lightning, or just plain old hallucinations. All I can say is that there are two sightings that they can't explain to me, because I seen them. So it boils down to separate realities and folks seem to understand it a little more after sighting one...G:

Sounds like you are in the here and now Arthur, and from this viewpoint everything is history, but of course everything that we think is based on it. So now you say there is no official story, upon which I have to agree. But is there any need for a story at all when all that we are seeking is the truth. In spite of the cover-up there is a lot of evidence and undoubtedly more to be found.

The thing that really puzzles me is that a bunch of government shills are proudly proclaiming that they are expert debunkers, and vigilantly pursuing those efforts to disprove , what they call, conspiracies, while promoting a conspiracy themselves. A hypothethis that supports the original government story. Does not calling yourself a debunker disqualify you from being a reliable spokesman for a truthful investigation?

What is being overlooked here is that there is only one story about what happened on that day. If we could time travel, we could witness it, but I wonder if it would do any good, because the official government story has been fabricated and will be pursued until the cows come home. So no matter how the story is spun,there is only one sequence of events that happened on that day and the truth lies only in the evidence and from witnesses that speak and write the truth. Real objects are the best evidence and a diary written on the spot is the best literature. The best picture is on film, is the most detailed image, and is impossible to reproduce. Digital photos with a lot of pixels are good and can be proved by analysis, while the fuzzy videos are just that; a fuzzy video.

On Sunday I wrote about the spike in donations to John McCain from Texas oil executives following a June 16 speech in which he reversed his longstanding opposition to offshore drilling.

In fact, no fewer than 85 Texas-based donors connected to the oil and gas industries gave $1,214,100 to McCain in June, with 73 percent of those donations occurring in the second half of the month. But it wasn't just Texas oil donors getting into gear. Our new report, It's A Gusher, released today by my organization, Campaign Money Watch, reveals that oil executives from around the nation cheered McCain's policy reversal by opening their checkbooks.

The most egregious example? Within about a week of McCain's reversal on offshore drilling, ten Hess executives or family members from New York and New Jersey maxed out to the RNC by writing identical $28,500 checks, for a total of $285,000.

PARIS - Divers trained in archaeology discovered a marble bust of an aging Caesar in the Rhone River that France's Culture Ministry said Tuesday could be the oldest known.

The life-sized bust showing the Roman ruler with wrinkles and hollows in his face is tentatively dated to 46 B.C. Divers uncovered the Caesar bust and a collection of other finds in the Rhone near the town of Arles — founded by Caesar.

These are strange times folks and I don't think a phenomena like this should go unreported. Who knows what strange forces lurk in the mind of Bu$hco?...G:

The Antikythera Mechanism gets a new face

The Antikythera Mechanism is an ancient calculator used to calculate astronomical positions. In 1900 the 2,000-year-old device was discovered a shipwreck off the Greek island of Antikythera, which is where the device gets its name. An article in Nature explains that new X-ray technology has found that the Antikythera Mechanism was far more advanced than previously thought. Jo Marchant, Nature's news editor, writes, "No earlier geared mechanism of any sort has ever been found. Nothing close to its technological sophistication appears again for well over a millennium, when astronomical clocks appear in medieval Europe. It stands as a strange exception, stripped of context, of ancestry, of descendants."



A new paper from the Antikythera Mechanism Research Project (AMRP) is published in the prestige science journal Nature on July 31st 2008. It reveals surprising results on the back dials of the Antikythera Mechanism - including a dial dedicated to the four-year Olympiad Cycle of athletic games in ancient Greece.

The research team has also deciphered all the months on the Mechanism’s 19-year calendar, revealing month names that are of Corinthian origin, probably from a Corinthian colony of the western Hellenic world - overturning the previous idea that the Mechanism was from the eastern part of the Mediterranean. For the first time we have direct evidence of its cultural origins.
Additional research has also transformed our understanding of the Mechanism’s sophisticated eclipse prediction dials. These results have extended the previous work of the AMRP on the complex structure of the Mechanism’s gears and dials and have added new and intriguing cultural and social dimensions.

The biggest proposed sale was for 392 Light Armored Vehicles, radios and anti-tank weapons at an estimated cost of three billion dollars, the Defense Security and Cooperation Agency said.

Congress also was notified of a possible sale of 140 upgraded M1A1 Abrams tanks as well as armored Humvees, tracked logistics vehicles, armored ambulances, vehicles to carry shelters and command posts, and trucks to transport heavy equipment.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Bush is so emphatic about going to the Olympics in China that one might think flying halfway around the globe to attend the games is what presidents do.

never before has an American leader shown up at an Olympics on foreign soil And Bush is doing more than just dropping by. He is planning to soak in as much as he can, with large blocs on his Beijing schedule devoted to watching athletes compete.

For this president, perhaps the most avid in a long line of White House sports buffs, it is an event that begins and ends with sports.

Yet politics have intruded in Olympics past, from Cold War boycotts to terrorism, and host China is right at the intersection of debates over human rights, security and trade. Even the Olympic torch relay fell victim to protests in Europe and the U.S.

Bush, who sets out Monday on a weeklong Asia trip, touches down first in South Korea, where trade, North Korea's nuclear program and the issue of U.S. beef imports will top the agenda. Then in Thailand, Bush will draw attention to the repressed citizens in neighboring Myanmar, also called Burma, and reflect on the future of U.S. policy in the Far East.

The heart of the trip is in Beijing, where Bush is to spend four nights and days.

His challenge, like the way he describes the U.S.-China relationship, is complex.

He must remind the world of his oft-stated commitment to freedoms in China, a country his own State Department brands as an authoritarian abuser of the most basic human rights. Yet he wants to avoid showing up the host country, a partner of enormous value to the U.S.

"I'm confident that by showing respect to the people, to the Olympics, it will put me in a position to continue to have frank and candid discussions," Bush told reporters this past week.

Well, If Bu$h really studied history he would realise that the Olympics have been political for a long time and if he read the news he would see that this will probably be the most political Olympic event in history. Even the 1936 Olympics in Berlin Germany, where Hitler and his minions re-iniated the carrying of the torch ceremony as a political photo-op, will be eclipsed by the Chinese efforts to build their world image.

Chinese officials have stepped up security and demonstraters have been warned that there is a designated area far from the event where they are allowed particpate. Hmm, sound familiar?

At 4 a.m. on 16 July 1936, prior to the opening of the 1936 Berlin Olympics, police began arresting all Romani (gypsies) people in Greater Berlin and forcibly relocated them to Marzahn, an open field in eastern Berlin sandwiched between a cemetery and a sewage dump. Later, the prison would be surrounded by barbed wire and prisoners were subject to forced labour in armament plants.

Hitler desired to clean up Berlin, the German Ministry of Interior authorized the chief of Berlin Police to arrest all Romani people (gypsies) and keep them in a special camp.Eventually, the men from Marzahn would be sent to Sachsenhausen concentration camp (in 1938), and women and children were sent to Auschwitz (in 1943)

9/11 third tower mystery 'solved'

The final mystery of 9/11 will soon be solved, according to US experts investigating the collapse of the third tower at the World Trade Center.

The 47-storey third tower, known as Tower Seven, collapsed seven hours after the twin towers.

Investigators are expected to say ordinary fires on several different floors caused the collapse.

Conspiracy theorists have argued that the third tower was brought down in a controlled demolition.

Unlike the twin towers, Tower Seven was not hit by a plane.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology, based near Washington DC, is expected to conclude in its long-awaited report this month that ordinary fires caused the building to collapse.

That would make it the first and only steel skyscraper in the world to collapse because of fire.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology's lead investigator, Dr Shyam Sunder, spoke to BBC Two's "The Conspiracy Files":

"Our working hypothesis now actually suggests that it was normal building fires that were growing and spreading throughout the multiple floors that may have caused the ultimate collapse of the buildings."

'Smoking gun'

However, a group of architects, engineers and scientists say the official explanation that fires caused the collapse is impossible. Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth argue there must have been a controlled demolition.


The founder of the group, Richard Gage, says the collapse of the third tower is an obvious example of a controlled demolition using explosives.

"Building Seven is the smoking gun of 9/11. A sixth grader can look at this building falling at virtually freefall speed, symmetrically and smoothly, and see that it is not a natural process.

"Buildings that fall in natural processes fall to the path of least resistance", says Gage, "they don't go straight down through themselves."

Conspiracy theories

There are a number of facts that have encouraged conspiracy theories about Tower Seven.

* Although its collapse potentially made architectural history, all of the thousands of tonnes of steel from the skyscraper were taken away to be melted down.
* The third tower was occupied by the Secret Service, the CIA, the Department of Defence and the Office of Emergency Management, which would co-ordinate any response to a disaster or a terrorist attack.
* The destruction of the third tower was never mentioned in the 9/11 Commission Report. The first official inquiry into Tower Seven by the Federal Emergency Management Agency was unable to be definitive about what caused its collapse.
* In May 2002 FEMA concluded that the building collapsed because intense fires had burned for hours, fed by thousands of gallons of diesel stored in the building. But it said this had "only a low probability of occurrence" and more work was needed.

But now nearly seven years after 9/11 the definitive official explanation of what happened to Tower Seven is finally about to be published in America.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology has spent more than two years investigating Tower Seven but lead investigator Dr Shyam Sunder rejects criticism that it has been slow.
