Bush's Sham of Democracy in Pakistan (and Iraq)

OpEdNews

December 30, 2007 at 07:50:35

by Ron Fullwood

"Democracy don't rule the world, You'd better get that in your head; This world is ruled by violence. But I guess that's better left unsaid."--Dylan

Democracy in Pakistan doesn't exist, any more than it does in Iraq. It hasn't existed in Pakistan since the 1999 coup by Musharraf. Yet, the Bush administration is calling for the 'democratic process' to be 'restored' in Pakistan after the killing of the leader of the most popular opposition to the U.S. supported dictator there -- much like their insistence that an end to their occupation of Iraq and restrictions on U.S. assistance to the installed and propped-up Maliki regime would threaten 'democracy' in the sovereign nation Bush invaded and overthrew.

For the Bush regime, democratic government is defined, more by an ability to seize and hold onto power, than by any recognized and accepted instigations of actual democracy. For Bush in Iraq, the 'elections' which brought the Maliki regime to power -- and, were held under an increased military occupation and widely boycotted by many of Iraq's population which wasn't aligned with the Shiite majority who voted in overwhelming numbers -- were enough to justify any and all actions by the U.S. enabled regime; including military assaults on rival communities before, during, and after the voting took place.

Pakistan journalist Sherry Rehman contradicts government on Bhutto story

CNNVIDEO

Shehrbano "Sherry" Rehman, spelled Sherbano on the Election Commission website and Sheherbano elsewhere, is a liberal politician and journalist in Pakistan. She was appointed by the Pakistan People's Party as a Member of the National Assembly after the 2002 election to the seat NA-309, Women Sindh-II. She was one of the fourteen women in Reserved Seats from Sindh Province, six of whom were appointed by the PPPP Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarians as their share in proportion to their elected MNAs.
She is a journalist and was formerly editor of The Herald. In March 2002 she was awarded the Overseas Award for Excellence in Journalism by the British House of Lords.

Benazir Bhutto suffered bullet wounds

Sherry Rehman, Pakistan People's Party information secretary, said it was clear that the former Pakistani prime minister suffered bullet wounds to her head, contrary to a government report that she died because she hit her head on a sunroof lever.

Cheema noted that if Rehman -- as she said -- believes she saw bullet wounds that caused Bhutto's death, "We don't mind if the People's Party leadership wants her body to be exhumed and post-mortemed. They are most welcome, but we gave you what the facts are."

Cheema emphasized that the government's conclusion on the cause of death was based on "absolute facts, nothing but the facts."

"It was corroborated by the doctor's report; it was corroborated by the evidence of the footage we showed you."

Rehman -- who had been riding in the car behind Bhutto's when it was attacked -- called the government's conclusion that Bhutto was not shot "the most bizarre, dangerous nonsense." Video Watch Sherry Rehman's interview with CNN »

"It's beginning to look like a cover-up to me," Rehman said in a CNN interview.

Rehman said Bhutto was hemorrhaging on the way to the hospital and that the two cars used to get her there were blood-soaked.

Bhutto photographer: 'Gunshots rang out and she went down'

There is a lot of MSM spin about this but this seems to me to be the most reliable evidence as to what really happened. The Pakistani government says that Bhutto was not killed by gunshots, but by a head wound and there is also a lot of talk about Al Quaida. This really looks like a cover-up...By whom and for what reason remains to be told.

The story

The photographer who took images of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto moments before her assassination Thursday told CNN he was "surprised" to see her rise through the sunroof of her vehicle to wave to supporters after delivering her speech.

"I ran up, got as close as I got, made a few pictures of her waving to the crowd," Getty Images senior staff photographer John Moore told CNN's online streaming news service, CNN.com Live, in a phone interview Thursday from Islamabad, Pakistan.

"And then suddenly, there were a few gunshots that rang out, and she went down, she went down through the sunroof," he said. "And just at that moment I raised my camera up and the blast happened. ... And then, of course, there was chaos.

Bushisms for 2007 ~Will Democracy survive without him?

Well Bu$hco hasn't disappointed us with his wit, humor, decisiveness, military prowess, and educational skills this year as he continues to lead the the most influncial and powerful country on planet Earth. Every day he makes monumental decisions
about such things as helping the people of Lebanon or rescuing Buddhist monks in Burma. As "Commander in Chief" he is busy selecting generals that are suited for the conditions on the grounds of Iraq and attorney generals that are qualified for the Neo Conservative Idiology. This well qualified and many faceted man is the first president to be trusted with the power to take control of all three branches of government in the event of a terror attack or disaster. He will only be in power for one more year, then we will have an inexperienced political wannabe in the White House. How will our Democracy survive without him,or will it?

In October e-mail, Bhutto said she would hold Musharraf responsible for her death

Raw Story

Published: Thursday December 27, 2007

In an e-mail sent to a confidant in the US two months ago, assassinated Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto said she would hold the country's current leader Pervez Musharraf "responsible" because his government did not do enough to provide for her security.

"I wld (sic) hold Musharraf responsible," Bhutto wrote to her US spokesman, Mark Siegel, in the October e-mail, which was reported Thursday afternoon by CNN's Wolf Blitzer. "I have been made to feel insecure by his minions, and there is no way what is happening in terms of stopping me from taking private cars or using tinted windows or giving jammers or four police mobiles to cover all sides cld (sic) happen without him."

Blitzer told viewers he received the e-mail soon after it was sent two months ago, but he agreed not to report on it unless Bhutto was assassinated. "It's a story I was asked to report to the world in -- if Bhutto were killed," he said.

Ex prime minister Nawaz Sharif calls for Mushariff's resignation

Looks like we're having another historical moment. Benazir Bhutto was loved by her countrymen and is now a martyr for the cause of Democracy. Her bravery in the face of danger will be remembered forever by the people of Pakistan. Earlier in the day her friend, Nawaz Sharif, who was also an ex prime minister, was under attack at the Islamabad airport when gunfire interrupted a rally killing four people.

Musharraf will probably have to step down because Bu$hco will now have a rough time covering for him. Unfortunately the upcoming election will now probably look like the ones that we have seen in Iraq and sadly the chances of a viable candidate winning the election will be about the same as for a one legged man in an arse kicking contest.

Fox News: General Petraeus will not run for president

Success in Iraq Doesn’t Fuel Presidential Plans for Gen. Petraeus

by Associated Press
Sunday, December 23, 2007

WASHINGTON — President Bush’s top Iraq war commander said Sunday that as far as he knows, his command performances now and in the future will be strictly military, not political. In fact, Army Gen. David Petraeus cited the words of Civil War-era Gen. William T. Sherman in declaring he has no interest in shedding his uniform and running for the White House, as Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower did 55 years ago.

“None,” Petraeus replied, when asked on “FOX News Sunday” if he had an interest in running.

“I have great respect for those who do choose to serve our country in that way. I’ve chosen to serve our country in uniform,” Petraeus said from Baghdad.

Yeah right, US Sheeple are supposed to believe that General Betrayus is presidential material because he supported the village idiot in promoting the "Surge". Bu$hco replaced General Casey because he called it a cival war and warned against troop escalation. Bu$h promoted Petraeus to 4 star general when he replaced Casey in Feb. 2007.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night. This antique bottle proclaims that this is a holiday to be celebrated. A holiday that falls on the Winter Solstice and has been a worldwide celebration of people of all races and religions since recorded history. A celebration of love, peace, goodwill, and the beginning of a new year. We can call it what we like, but it has allways been a holiday "holy day". So eat, drink, and be merry as we usher in a new year.

Why do Santa's reindeer fly?

The role of ancient mushroom-using shamans

by Mark Adams

Although most people see Christmas as a Christian holiday, most of the symbols and icons we associate with Christmas celebrations are actually derived from the shamanistic traditions of the tribal peoples of pre-Christian northern Europe.

The sacred mushroom of these people was the red and white Amanita muscaria, also known as "fly agaric." This mushroom commonly is seen in books of fairy tales and usually is associated with magic and fairies. It contains potent hallucinogenic compounds once used by ancient peoples for insight and transcendental experiences. Most of the major elements of the modern Christmas celebration, such as Santa Claus, Christmas trees, magical reindeer and the giving of gifts, are originally based upon the traditions surrounding the harvest and consumption of this most sacred mushroom.

O'Reilly: The dope on the slippery slope of torture

O'Reilly "This comes down to the fact that there is a civil war in this country over how to fight the war on terror and your on one side and I'm on the other. In our pre interview with you today we ask what interogation techniques you would use to get information from Al Quaida's uh people like Zubaydah."

This questionable spinmeister from Faux News tells Turley that "the guy knew
who the Al Quaida big shots were and where they were, after we broke him he gave em up and we arrested blahblabla and all of em."

In effect Bill'O is saying that he would torture Zubaydha untill he admitted what, in his opinion, "the guy knew.

Bush Lawyers Discussed Fate of C.I.A. Tapes

White House lawyers who were involved in discussions with the C.I.A. on its interrogation videotapes, from left: Harriet Miers, John Bellinger, Alberto Gonzales and David Addington.

WASHINGTON — At least four top White House lawyers took part in discussions with the Central Intelligence Agency between 2003 and 2005 about whether to destroy videotapes showing the secret interrogations of two operatives from Al Qaeda, according to current and former administration and intelligence officials.

The accounts indicate that the involvement of White House officials in the discussions before the destruction of the tapes in November 2005 was more extensive than Bush administration officials have acknowledged.

Those who took part, the officials said, included Alberto R. Gonzales, who served as White House counsel until early 2005; David S. Addington, who was the counsel to Vice President Dick Cheney and is now his chief of staff; John B. Bellinger III, who until January 2005 was the senior lawyer at the National Security Council; and Harriet E. Miers, who succeeded Mr. Gonzales as White House counsel.

It was previously reported that some administration officials had advised against destroying the tapes, but the emerging picture of White House involvement is more complex. In interviews, several administration and intelligence officials provided conflicting accounts as to whether anyone at the White House expressed support for the idea that the tapes should be destroyed.

One former senior intelligence official with direct knowledge of the matter said there had been “vigorous sentiment” among some top White House officials to destroy the tapes. The former official did not specify which White House officials took this position, but he said that some believed in 2005 that any disclosure of the tapes could have been particularly damaging after revelations a year earlier of abuses at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.

When politics get weird the weird get weirder

Well, here they are folks. Holy Joe and Straight Talk McCain dressed up as Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dumb, bringing a whole new meaning to the meaning of disgust. Whats with the little vests covering up their red ties? They must think that they look like a couple of holy warriors. After all, it was Lieberman and McCain that co-sponsored the 2002 resolution that authorized the U.S. invasion of Iraq, and Lieberman has remained a supporter of the nearly 5-year-old war in Iraq at a time when Democratic leaders are trying to bring the conflict to an end. I think I'm going to lose my groceries, especially if Holy Joe thinks he will be running as vice president...G:

Lieberman calls McCain "the most capable to be commander in chief"

"Being a Republican is important. Being a Democrat is important. But you know what's more important than that? The interest and well-being of the United States of America," the Democrat-turned Independent said in announcing his decision Monday morning in New Hampshire.

"Let's put the United States first again, and John McCain is the man as president who will help us do that," he said.

The Connecticut senator decided to endorse McCain because he considers him "the most capable to be commander in chief on day one of his administration, and the most capable of uniting the country so that we can prevail against Islamic extremism," a Lieberman aide said earlier. Holy Joe had not planned to endorse anyone until after the primary season, but McCain asked for his endorsement a few days after the two men returned from a Thanksgiving trip to Iraq together, the aide said.

The People have responded to "Impeach Cheney" campaign

30,000 People Join Congressman Wexler's Call for Hearings in Just 24 Hours

Blockbuster First Day for WexlerWantsHearings.com

(WASHINGTON, DC) December 15th, 2007. In only the first 24 hours, more than 30,000 people have signed up online to join Congressman Robert Wexler's (D-FL) call for impeachment hearings for Vice President Richard Cheney. On Friday, December 14, Wexler launched www.WexlerWantsHearings.com and asked Americans to join his efforts to convince Congress to hold impeachment hearings. As of 2:30 PM on Saturday 36,000 people have signed up, and the momentum generated by Wexler's campaign is only accelerating.

"The amazing response generated by my call for impeachment hearings simply confirms the passion and energy that exists throughout the nation to hold this Administration accountable" said Wexler. "Originally my long term goal was 50,000 people to join the movement. Now it is clear we will accomplish that in only the first couple days. Major momentum now exists on behalf of our movement and it is now clear that average Americans desperately want Congress and the House Judiciary Committee to take action."

CIA delivers the truth to Cheney

A Miracle: Honest Intel on Iran Nukes

by Ray McGovern
December 4, 2007

For those who have doubts about miracles, a double one occurred today. An honest National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) on Iran's nuclear program has been issued, and its "Key Judgments" were made public.

With redraft after redraft, it was what the Germans call eine schwere Geburt – a difficult birth, 10 months in gestation.

I do not know how often Vice President Dick Cheney visited CIA headquarters during the gestation period, but I am told he voiced his displeasure as soon as he saw the first sonogram/draft very early this year and is so displeased with what issued that he has refused to be the godfather.

This time Cheney and his neocon colleagues were unable to abort the process. And after delivery to the press, this child is going to be very hard to explain – the more so since it is legitimate.

The main points of the NIE:

"We judge that in fall 2003, Tehran halted its nuclear weapons program…

"We assess with moderate confidence Tehran has not restarted its nuclear weapons program as of mid-2007.

"We do not have sufficient intelligence to judge confidently whether Tehran is willing to maintain the halt of its nuclear weapons program indefinitely…

"We judge with moderate confidence Iran probably would be technically capable of producing enough highly enriched uranium sometime during the 2010-2015 time frame.

"We judge with high confidence that Iran will not be technically capable of producing and reprocessing enough plutonium for a weapon before about 2015."

Having reached these conclusions, it is not surprising that the NIE's authors make a point of saying up front (in bold type), "This NIE does not [italics in original] assume that Iran intends to acquire nuclear weapons."

Seymour Hersch: WH Already Knew About NIE

Veracifier

06 December 2007

By: Raleigh-Elizabeth Smith

Sy Hersch told Wolf Blitzer Tuesday that the Bush Administration has long known what the outcome of the NIE would be -but proceeded with serious sanctions and military threats anyway. And that's a course that the WH clearly intends to still see through; while it might seem a novel concept - responsibility and accountability - it seems like this would be a good opportunity for Bush to actually apologize. "Sorry, Dinny, I was a little off..."

So we're left to conclude that W knows something we don't - I am guessing that if he ever were to say sorry, Hell might freeze over (then where would all those liberals go?). So instead, we get the "I am always right!" mandate: he wants to know about the old nuclear program. And he wants to know about it now. Ah, the White House: making kindergarten school yard politics look mature, four years at a time.

Airborne Laser

The ABL weapon system consists of a high-energy, chemical oxygen iodine laser (COIL) mounted on a modified 747-400F (freighter) aircraft to shoot down theater ballistic missiles in their boost phase. A crew of four, including pilot and copilot, would be required to operate the airborne laser, which would patrol in pairs at high altitude, about 40,000 feet, flying in orbits over friendly territory, scanning the horizon for the plumes of rising missiles. Capable of autonomous operation, the ABL would acquire and track missiles in the boost phase of flight, illuminating the missile with a tracking laser beam while computers measure the distance and calculate its course and direction. After acquiring and locking onto the target, a second laser - with weapons-class strength - would fire a three- to five-second burst from a turret located in the 747's nose, destroying the missiles over the launch area.

The airborne laser would fire a Chemical Oxygen Iodine Laser, or COIL, invented at Phillips Lab in 1977. The laser's fuel consists of the same chemicals found in hair bleach and Drano - hydrogen peroxide and potassium hydroxide - which are then combined with chlorine gas and water. The laser operates at an infrared wavelength of 1.315 microns, which is invisible to the eye. By recycling chemicals, building with plastics and using a unique cooling process, the COIL team was able to make the laser lighter and more efficient while - at the same time - increasing its power by 400 percent in five years. The flight-weighted ABL module would be similar in performance and power levels to the multi-hundred kilowatt class COIL Baseline Demonstration Laser (BDL-2) module demonstrated by TRW in August 1996. As its name implies, though, it would be lighter and more compact than the earlier version due to the integration of advanced aerospace materials into the design of critical hardware components. For the operational ABL system, several modules would be linked together in series to achieve ABL's required megawatt-class power level.

A Video for Duhbya by The Federation of American Scientists

George W Bu$h recently stated "Iran was dangerous, Iran is dangerous, and Iran will be dangerous if they have the knowledge necessary to make a nucular weapon."

Well, here it is folks, a film that was made in 1946 by The Federation of American Scientists showing how the technology was developed, but mainly to show the awful consequence of its use. So it looks like the Neoconservative quest to replace our Democratic government with Fascism is almost complete. Evolution of the Atmosphere: Composition, Structure and Energy

Keeling Curve: Atmospheric CO2 concentrations as measured at Mauna Loa Observatory.

The Keeling Curve is a graph showing the variation in concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide since 1958. Keeling's measurements showed the first significant evidence of rapidly increasing carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere. Many scientists credit Keeling's graph with first bringing the world's attention to the effects that human activity were having on the Earth's atmosphere and climate.
Charles David Keeling of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography was the first person to make frequent regular measurements of the atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration, taking readings at the South Pole and atop Mauna Loa in Hawaii from 1958 onwards.

These measurements show a steady increase in mean atmospheric CO2 concentration from about 315 parts per million by volume (ppmv) in 1958 to over 380 ppmv by the year 2006 [1]. This increase in atmospheric CO2 is considered to be largely due to the combustion of fossil fuels, and has been accelerating in recent years. This is supported by measurements of carbon dioxide concentration in ancient air bubbles trapped in polar ice cores, which show that mean atmospheric CO2 concentration was between 275 and 280 ppmv for several thousand years but started rising sharply at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Since carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, this has significant implications for global warming.

Though Mauna Loa is an active volcano, Keeling and collaborators made measurements on the incoming ocean breeze and above the thermal inversion layer to prevent local contamination. In addition, measurements at many other isolated sites have confirmed the long-term trend,

Bush: Nuke-less Iran remains dangerous

Iran is dangerous because they might have knowledge about building a nuclear bomb he says. Well, of course they have knowledge of that, but who doesn't? The atomic bomb has been around for 60 plus years, has been built by students, and there are even plans on the internet. I thought that Dubya was a Harvard graduate that knows how to use the google, but here he is on the telly addressing the dangers of having knowledge of building a nuclear weapon, when he should be addressing the dangers of tactical high energy weapons (THEL).

Remember the common cold? Not Anymore!

Germ Theory – What Is Mycoplasma?

“…What we fear is another opportunity the world is being given to exchange an ancient disease (a viral influenza) for something new: a ‘flu-like illness’ caused by a Mycoplasma species. In fact, if our worst fears are realised, a large part of the human family has already been contaminated with this deadly new pathogen. It has been engineered from its earlier and natural antecedent by the US government’s biowarfare weapons research, development, testing and deployment agencies and their university and commercial partners…

“Mycoplasma is now acknowledged by a patent, held by the US Government, to be a factor in ‘…AIDS or ARC, Gulf War Syndrome, Sarcoidosis, respiratory distress syndrome, Kibuchi’s disease, autoimmune diseases such as Collagen Vascular Disease and Lupus and chronic debilitating diseases such as Alzheimer’s Disease.’ This dramatic list of Mycoplasma-related diseases is taken from the 1991 US Patent #5,242,820, with its ‘inventor’ cited as Shyh-Ching Lo, who assigned the patent rights to the American Registry of Pathology, Washington, DC. In other words, the US Government holds a patent upon a death and disease weapon of mass destruction in the form of a patent on ‘Pathogenic Mycloplasma’. And this Mycoplasma causes a ‘flu-like illness’ which can be fatal.
