On a rainy day in October 2005, Dana Priest was escorted across the immaculate marble lobby of CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia along with a pair of her editors from The Washington Post (I was one of them). We crowded into a private, key-operated elevator that opened into a study that would have seemed almost cozy if not for the arresting artifact at the far end of the room: an American flag, scorched and battered, recovered from Ground Zero and now hanging behind the director’s desk.
The purpose of the meeting was to urge The Post not to publish Priest’s story about a global network of secret CIA prisons. The discussion was off the record, but senior officials in the room later made the same arguments in public. They said the story would disrupt the detention of highly prized prisoners. It could endanger American lives by interfering with efforts to stop another attack. And revealing this one secret might set off an invisible domino effect, ruining the government’s reputation for keeping others.
It was an icy and awkward encounter, but it could have been scripted by the Founders. Disputes over secrecy are as old as the republic. In this case, officials who had authority to order people’s deaths had no power to stop a newspaper article (which must have been infuriating). At The Post, we had no way of knowing if the benefits of running the story outweighed potential costs (which was humbling). Where was the boundary between our responsibility to inform the public and hold the government accountable, even in wartime, and harm to national security? Wrestling with this question, case by case, was how the contest between security and freedom worked.

A major examination by Washington Post reporters Dana Priest and William Arkin is the subject of an upcoming FRONTLINE documentary produced by veteran producer Michael Kirk. The Post's two-year investigation looks at the top secret world the government created in response to the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001—a world that has become so large, so unwieldy and so secretive that few know how much money it costs, how many people it employs, how many programs exist within it or how many agencies duplicate work being done elsewhere.
Chris Hedges, speaking at a Truthdig fundraising event in Los Angeles on Sunday evening, made these remarks about Osama bin Laden’s death.
I know that because of this announcement, that reportedly Osama bin Laden was killed, Bob [Truthdig Editor Robert Scheer] wanted me to say a few words about it … about al-Qaida. I spent a year of my life covering al-Qaida for The New York Times. It was the work in which I, and other investigative reporters, won the Pulitzer Prize. And I spent seven years of my life in the Middle East. I was the Middle East bureau chief for The New York Times. I’m an Arabic speaker. And when someone came over and told ... me the news, my stomach sank. I’m not in any way naive about what al-Qaida is. It’s an organization that terrifies me. I know it intimately.
But I’m also intimately familiar with the collective humiliation that we have imposed on the Muslim world. The expansion of military occupation that took place throughout, in particular the Arab world, following 9/11—and that this presence of American imperial bases, dotted, not just in Iraq and Afghanistan, but in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Doha—is one that has done more to engender hatred and acts of terror than anything ever orchestrated by Osama bin Laden.
Several Spring residents say they saw a strange aircraft flying overhead late Saturday afternoon. They described it as having no lights, unlike planes that fly overhead usually towards the airport and leaving hefty vapor trails. Residents say it circled overhead twice, cut a patch and then circled there before coming back above their homes.
One man said no one knew what this was and all of this happening on the anniversary of 9/11 terrified him. He says he's still shaken and doesn't know if he'll be able to sleep tonight.
"I have never seen this before. We see planes fly out of Intercontinental Airport every night, going over our house," said eyewitness Pete Smith. "This didn't fly over. This made a U-pattern, made another circular pattern, went to the south, turned again and started to take off."
KPRC Local 2 received dozens of phone calls regarding the plane.
Houston Airport Systems spokeswoman Marlene McClinton told Local 2 that NASA's WB-57 is a high-altitude aircraft, operating out of Ellington Field.
"It is taking air samples between 45,000 and 51,000 feet," said McClinton.
According to McClinton, it was a normal operation, but due to atmospheric conditions, the contrails were extremely visible.
As the frogwater becomes noticably warm, the AIPAC oriented congress along with a senate that is directly tied to the shadow government quietly acquiecse to eternal war and the invasion of Iran.
All this because of a war that was started based on a lie; weapons of mass destruction, the same reason that is being used for Iran. and implemented by accusations of terrorists in airliners flying into the World Trade Center buildings WTC 1 & WTC 2.
As many folks now believe the official story of the collapse of the buildings was fabricated and promoted by the NIST, it is important that there be an open and independent investigation to analyse the overly abundent evidence that there was more to it than airplanes, Al Qaeda, building fires and gravity.

There has sure been a lot of fear mongering, of late, by the same folks that we're spinning the facts in the Bu$h administration. The Neo Republican minions of the corporate government still speak with one voice and the choreography is all too predictable.
KSM is on trial for his involvement in the destruction of the World Trade Center and the scene of the crime is, of course in NY City. Typically criminals are tried in the jurisdiction where the crime was committed. If anyone has any objection, they should file for a change of venue. That is how the law works, not by a bunch of extremists screaming bloody murder because they don't get their way. How about some consideration for the folks that lost relatives, shouldn't they be able to see justice being done?
Can it be that there is more to this than the main stream media is reporting, like maybe, that admission of evidence about other possible perpetrators of the crime cold be brought up? That looking closer at the evidence at the scene of the crime might reveal a few things that could reveal that the official government story is not feasible?
This is, after-all, the crime of the century and as such deserves a fair trial witnessed by the folks who were affected by this horrible and unbelievable, even after nine years, crime that has touched every one of us.
Senator offers Guantanamo Bay deal if 9/11 trials move to military tribunals
Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (S.C.) said that if President Obama agrees to try alleged Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed and four accused henchmen in military tribunals, he will press fellow Republicans to vote to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Graham, interviewed Sunday on CBS's "Face the Nation," said reversing a plan by Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. to try the suspected terrorists in a civilian court in New York would be seen by the public as an act of leadership.
The White House is reviewing Holder's plan, and no new recommendation has been presented to the president. A decision is not expected for several weeks.
Beyond Mohammed's case, Graham also said a new legal framework is needed to deal with the most dangerous detainees at the U.S. military prison.
"We need a legal system that gives due process to the detainee but also understands they didn't rob a liquor store," he said.
Closing Guantanamo Bay was a key promise Obama made when he took office, but it remains unfulfilled as he battles pressure from both sides of the political aisle.
In a full-page ad in Sunday's New York Times, the American Civil Liberties Union said that if Obama does not back Holder, he will be extending the policies of the George W. Bush administration. The ad shows an image of Obama on the left and in subsequent panels moving to the right, the image morphs into a portrayal of Bush, who set up Guantanamo Bay for suspected terrorists.

"As president, Barack Obama must decide whether to keep his solemn promise to restore our Constitution and due process, or ignore his vow and continue the Bush-Cheney policies," the ad states.
Hmm, interesting experiment. These dudes are performing an experiment that just might relate to something we've been looking at for a long time. Pictures of toasted cars at the World Trade Center disaster, in Iraq, in Afghanistan, in Gaza, and now in Pakistan. These are largely explained away as car bombs, and suicide attacks, but I've never seen an explanation for the ones at the 911 scene. There were cars, trucks, and buses, some of them with melted motors that were blocks away from the WTC buildings.
Maybe someone should ask the Department of Energy what they think about all this.
And maybe we should also ask about whats going on in Pakistan.
"Gun Encased in Concrete and Gun-Casing Remains
The U.S. Customs House stored a large arsenal of firearms at its Six World Trade Center office. During recovery efforts, several handguns were found at Ground Zero, including these two cylindrical gun-casing remains and a revolver embedded in concrete. Fire temperatures were so intense that concrete melted like lava around anything in its path."
Despite the fact that the horrible events of Sept. 11 occurred in broad daylight and were widely photographed, significant aspects of the attacks have been completely suppressed by a media blackout.

A massive explosion, witnessed by millions of television viewers on CNN, evidently devastated World Trade Center 6, the eight-story U.S. Customs building, although no national newspaper, other than American Free Press, has written a word about it.
Before the smoke had cleared from around the stricken South Tower, a mysterious explosion shot 550 feet into the air above the U.S. Customs House at WTC 6.
The unexplained blast occurred between the burning North Tower and the 47-story Salomon Brothers Building, known as WTC 7, immediately after United Airlines Flight 175 smashed into the South Tower, at about 9:03 a.m.
The explosion at WTC 6 was shown afterward on CNN. But because it was not broadcast as it happened there has been some confusion about when it actually occurred.
The large amount of smoke seen cascading around the South Tower in the video led some observers to mistake the blast for a dust cloud from the subsequent collapse of the tower.
This video, at around 40 seconds, shows the plume of smoke mentioned in this article. The time mentioned in the article is 9:03 am just after WTC2 was impacted by a plane. There is some discrepency, as this video says about 9:30.
Interestingly this is around the same time that Barry Jennings says he was hanging from a collapsed stairwell in WTC7 after hearing a large explosion.
American Free Press contacted CNN to determine exactly when the footage was filmed.
CNN’s Public Affairs Department confirmed that the explosion shown in the footage occurred immediately after the second plane had crashed into the South Tower. When asked if the footage was taken at 9:04 a.m., the CNN archivist said “that’s correct.”
When asked if CNN could offer any explanation about what might have caused the blast that soared higher than the 47-story WTC 7 in the foreground, the archivist said: “We can’t figure it out.”
The affected space between WTC 7 and the North Tower was occupied by the Customs House building, also known as WTC 6. The building housed the offices of 760 employees of the Customs Service, a part of Treasury. Other federal
agencies had offices in the building, including the Departments of Commerce, Agriculture, Labor, and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. They did not return calls to AFP about the matter.
A spokesman for the Export-Import Bank of the United States, which had an office with four employees on the sixth floor of the Customs House, confirmed the time of the explosion and told AFP that the employees had survived and been relocated. One private company, Eastco Building Services, Inc., reportedly leased space in the building.
Some 800 workers from WTC 6 were safely evacuated within 12 minutes of the first plane hitting the North Tower at about 8:46 a.m., according to a Sept. 18 Washington Post article by Stephen Barr.
The Barr piece is the only known article published about WTC 6. However, Barr failed to mention the explosion that apparently devastated the building just minutes after the workers had escaped with their lives.

Methinks that this goes far beyond windmills, electric cars, conservation of energy, and solar panels. Global warming certainly can't be denied and I agree that we must do everything possible to change the situation, but it seems that us shuman beans are, as usual getting only part of the story.
