Colin Powell: I would shut Guantanamo down this afternoon

CNN 11:02 p.m. EDT, June 21, 2007

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A White House meeting planned for Friday about the future of the Guantanamo Bay detention facility has been canceled after The Associated Press reported the Bush administration was "nearing a decision" to close the center.

National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said there would be no meeting Friday, but he would not comment on the reasons for the cancellation

Earlier Thursday, AP reported that officials were close to a decision to shut down the facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and that the administration had scheduled a meeting to discuss a proposal to transfer the detainees to other military prisons.

  1. As I said before geezer-dude, Powell has no credibility with me. He had his chance to be the hero and choked.

Too bad too. An old soldier who sold his soul to the company store is sad, almost pitiful.

  2. Ditto... NOW he can talk!

However... I don't know what all went on over his dismissal. I remember him never looking comfortable around the idiot whenever they were in public.

Maybe he deserves some slack, here... I dunno.

Hey; I can't be a militant SOB ALL the time! ;-)

  3. I meant resignation, not "dismissal."

  4. Yep...The old Colon was constipated and spilled his bowells too late. I still have the same regard for him as I have for Lieberman. Talking out of both sides of your mouth don't get it, especially in a position of responsibility that involves peoples lives and welfare...

  7. The whole torture (and scandal) illustrates all Eight Principles of Incompetence ( http://pov-mentarch1.blogspot.com/2007/06/eight-principles-of-incompetence.html ) in action:

Zeroth Principle: Incompetence is driven by intellectual sloth.
First Principle: Incompetence surrounds itself with incompetence.
    Second Principle: Incompetence is ethics-impaired.
Third Principle: Incompetence abhors transparency and accountability.
Fourth Principle: Incompetence does or says anything to defend itself.
Fifth Principle: Incompetence always supports incompetence.
Sixth Principle: Violence is the last refuge of incompetence.
Seventh Principle: Incompetence is nothing but consistent with itself.

'Nuff said - tragically enough ...
