Condoleeza Rice plays the 911 card when asked about torture
Is Condoleezza Rice Like Nixon? Says Presidential Authorization Overrides Torture Rules
Former secretary of state says presidential authorization nulls convention against torture.

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice echoed Richard Nixon this week when she told a Stanford student that presidential authorization essentially transcends existing laws.
Asked whether waterboarding is torture, Rice replied, "The United States was told, we were told, nothing that violates our obligations under the Convention Against Torture, and so by definition, if it was authorized by the president, it did not violate our obligations under the Convention Against Torture."
Many readers will recall that Nixon had a similar response when asked about Watergate, and told the reporter David Frost, "When the president does it, that means it is not illegal."
Rice also insisted that she did not authorize waterboarding: "I didn’t authorize anything. I conveyed the authorization of the administration to the agency, that they had policy authorization, subject to the Justice Department’s clearance. That’s what I did." A 2002 report, however, says Rice asked the CIA to pursue the interrogation method, which has been described as torture.

Irael-Firsters: The Greatest Danger
That Americans continue to kill and be killed in Iraq (and Afghanistan), whose agenda does this serve? Who benefits from such wars in the Gulf? Who are the cheerleaders? Dahlia Wasfi, M.D., provides answers to these questions.
Wasfi was a speaker at the Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) 'Winter Soldier' eyewitness testimony, March 2008, in Maryland. Wasfi is the daughter of a Jewish mother and an Iraqi father. As such, she's the Jewish evolutionary group strategy's worst nightmare. She's an insider, speaking out. The orthodox zealous Rabbi points to her and says, "See what comes of marrying the Goy?"
As a child in New York City, and then Basrah, Iraq, U.S.-born Dahlia Wasfi looks at the world from a unique perspective. Mother and father met at medical school, in Washington D.C. Wasfi's father was from Basrah. After getting his medical degree, the young Wasfi family returned to Basrah for five years, meeting the terms of a scholarship from Saddam Hussein's Baathist government. Then Dahlia, born in the USA, returned with her family to the U.S. Many of us knew in 1990 that Hussein was being set up by the American empire as the new villain, then George Herbert Walker Bush in 1991 found (manufactured) the pretext to attack and cripple Iraq. For the next decade the ghoulish Bill Clinton quietly continued his predecessor's mass murder through sanctions, and bombing. The people of Basrah, for example, were hard-hit by U.S. and British use of depleted uranium ordinance. Many of the most hideous DU-deformed children are from Basrah.
And then came along George Bush, total captive of the neo-cons (Israel Firsters), in a rigged election that the whole government and the press were in on (or complicit with by their silence). Dahlia Wasfi, while in medical school, was watching thousands upon thousands of Iraqis - some of them her relatives, boys and girls she played with, aunts and uncles, being murdered by her government (the U.S.), let alone the destruction of modern and ancient Iraq.
In part-one of her Winter Soldier testimony, Dahlia Wasfi tells of her encounter with the heroic example of Rachel Corrie (crushed to death by an Israeli bulldozer in 2001) that brought her out of despondency and into action. Wasfi reminds us that Oded Yinon wrote the
Strategy for Israel in the 80s (published by the World Zionist Organization). Then Richard Perle, Douglas Feith and David Wurmser, as part of the Israeli Likud government of Benjamin Netanyahu, write 'Clean Break: a new strategy for securing the realm' (that's 'Israel's realm, of course). Then these three Israelis (Wasfi explains how easy it is for any Jew to become an Israeli citizen, especially those working for the Likud government) return to implement the Israeli plan which includes the removal of Saddam Hussein and the neutralization of Israel's main enemy, Iraq. Dahlia Wasfi asks 'whose agenda is being served?' Pretty obviously, Wasfi points out, it's Israel.
Kudos to...

Longtime GOP Sen. Arlen Specter becomes Democrat
April 28, 2009
The story
Veteran Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter told colleagues Tuesday that he switched from the Republican to the Democratic Party, Sen. Harry Reid says.
The Specter party switch would give Democrats a filibuster-proof Senate majority of 60 seats if Al Franken holds his current lead in the disputed Minnesota Senate race.
"Since my election in 1980, as part of the Reagan Big Tent, the Republican Party has moved far to the right," Specter said in a statement posted by his office on PoliticsPA.com.
Faux News seems to be excited about Spectrum's defection also, like they don't know whether to poo poo or go blind....heehehehehehehehe

It's Arbor Day~Biotechnology comes to the forest & orchard
Well, just thought I had better check to see if our trees are being genetically modified like our vegetables and livestock are and sure enough this has been experimented with for 20 years or so. Yep. when you get ready to plant a tree you can be sure that it is something of your own choice, shape, texture, and best of all, Roundup Ready.

Genetically engineered trees sprouting quietly... for now
Two poplar leaves. The one on the right is from a genetically modified tree.
Posted 7/31/2003 2:48 PM
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Roll over John Muir and tell Johnny Appleseed the news: biotechnology is coming to the forest and orchard.
Scientists are planting genetically engineered trees in dozens of research projects across the country, ignoring the pleas of environmentalists who fear dangerous, unintended consequences.
"It won't be as widespread as agricultural biotechnology, but it could be much more destructive," said Jim Diamond, chairman of the Sierra Club's genetic engineering committee. "Trees are what's left of our natural environment and home to endangered species."
The Sierra Club wants a moratorium on the planting of genetic engineered trees outdoors until the science is better understood. But like a tree falling deep in the forest, its call has gone unheeded.
The tree researchers say their critics are missing all the ways that science can give Mother Nature a fighting chance against ravages natural and manmade.
Biotechnology, they say, may provide just what's needed to help reverse global deforestation and industrial pollution while satisfying increased demand for wood and paper products. The Pentagon is even tinkering with pine trees as possible warning systems against germ and chemical attacks.

A Dwarf Pear Tree: Another Genetic Engineering First
By Judy McBride
July 2, 1999
The first genetically engineered dwarf pear tree of an existing variety has been developed by Agricultural Research Service scientists. Dwarf trees are more productive than traditional-size trees and offer growers other advantages as well.
ARS horticulturists Ralph Scorza and Richard Bell at the Appalachian Fruit Research Station in Kearnesyville, WV, dwarfed Bosc pear trees by inserting a gene originally isolated from a bacterium. The new dwarf trees are growing in greenhouses at the lab, and the scientists expect the trees to bear fruit in about two or three years.
The bacterial gene can be used to dwarf rootstocks or to make the scion—the top part of the tree—smaller or dwarf. According to Bell, the pear industry relies on only a few major varieties and needs to improve them. Dwarfing will do that.
In addition to being more productive, dwarf fruit trees allow high-density plantings of smaller trees that can produce more fruit in the same area of land than the larger, standard-size trees. And they’re easier to manage, prune, spray and harvest. Fruit from a dwarf tree is the same size as fruit from a normal tree.
For those growers not interested in dwarf trees, Scorza and colleagues
have developed a peach tree with a new, columnar shape. Perfect for the home gardener with limited space, the columnar tree has upright, narrow branches that grow close to the tree trunk without shading other fruit or vegetables that may be growing nearby.
Like dwarfs, the columnar trees require much less management and will allow high-density growing. They eliminate the large space necessary between traditional trees. Therefore, chemicals and fertilizer need be applied only to a very small area, saving the grower money and reducing environmental impacts. Compared to traditional size trees, at least three times as many columnar trees can be grown per unit of land.
These new trees—which bear excellent quality fruit—are expected to be available to home gardeners within the next few years.
ARS is USDA’s chief scientific research agency. A more detailed story on this research is available in the agency’s July Agricultural Research magazine, available on the Internet at: ars.usda.gov

Earth Day 101: Al Gore, Repower America, and the Department of Energy
Al Gore’s Challenge to Repower America:
"There are times in the history of our nation when our very way of life depends upon dispelling illusions and awakening to the challenge of a present danger. In such moments, we are called upon to move quickly and boldly to shake off complacency, throw aside old habits and rise, clear-eyed and alert, to the necessity of big changes. Those who, for whatever reason, refuse to do their part must either be persuaded to join the effort or asked to step aside. This is such a moment. The survival of the United States of America as we know it is at risk. And even more - if more should be required - the future of human civilization is at stake."
Methinks that this goes far beyond windmills, electric cars, conservation of energy, and solar panels. Global warming certainly can't be denied and I agree that we must do everything possible to change the situation, but it seems that us shuman beans are, as usual getting only part of the story. The DOA, namely the Department of Fusion Energy, has been working on solutions that we don't see on the main stream media, and is involved with many solutions, including fusion powered electrical generation and atmospheric studies of radiation in cloud formation processes.

This technology has been around for years and was developed in the US. Who knows what 's happening in subterrainian domains or if this is the only technology that is used for this purpose. Any ways, refering to my last post and getting back to the City Paper articles about Mr. Fantastic,I would like to point out this quote by him, aka "Mike Thomas". Would also mention what Seymore Hersh had to say to Howard Altman.
Mr. Fantastic:
"Howard, I am letting you know ahead of time that what I am giving you will be the largest story since Sep 11, the governments secret base. It is nicknamed the underground pentagon, it has 5 buildings, each 3 stories, a helipad, a national satellite comm. center, direct lines to the president, moscow, norad, and other top notch organizations. Not only can I get you the pics, and/or film but I can give you the layout of any activities. So chump change will not be accepted for me risking my career. I know the shadow gov is the hottest thing going so be generous. Hope to do business soon. Mike."
City Paper... March 14–21, 2002

Sidebar: Conversations with the White House
3:04 p.m., Mon., March 11
" Mike Thomas" has sent me an unsolicited e-mail. "i need a reply asap," he writes.
So now what?
Blow him off and maybe the FBI doesn’t catch the guy? Become a decoy and peg reporters as government tools?
I fire off a number of calls to reporters and editors I respect.
There are no definitive answers, only "gray areas" and "who will ever trust us" and "think about your career."
Then I leave a message for the FBI agent who came to see me earlier in the day.
"Hey, heads up, this guy e-mailed again. But I can’t be an agent. I can’t be a spy."
A little while later, the agent calls back, understanding my dilemma, asking that, at the very least, I do not respond, "to give us more time to develop a plan of action."
It is something I can live with, and so I agree.
Later that night, I receive a return call from Sy Hersh, the reporter who broke the My Lai massacre story.
"You don’t need me to tell you not to work for the FBI," he says in a gravelly voice. "I don’t mean to be rude, but, you are in way over your head on this, aren’t you? I mean, do you know who you are really dealing with here?"

Mr. Fantastic is giving me an ultimatum.
"The deadline for your first offer is Sunday by 5 p.m.," the man writes in an e-mail, username mrfantastic_76 , on Sat., March 9. "That is when I get my other offer. They made an offer but not to my likings. So be inventive. I will deliver, and you will not have to pay until I deliver and you are happy with what you have, but not until we have a set price…"
The missive from Mr. Fantastic is the latest in a series of correspondence in which the sender is trying to negotiate a deal.
But this is not for antique bric-a-brac found on eBay or his Aunt Martha’s coin collection.
Mr. Fantastic, who also goes by the name of "Mike Thomas," is trying to sell me pictures from inside one of the government’s most secure facilities. Saturday afternoon he is informing me that there is a bidding war going on and that I’d better ante up.

Armey’s Axiom: Don’t Take Me Seriously
Compliments of BALLOON JUICE
Juan Cole
Watch Dick Armey on Hardball making some pretty astounding remarks to Joan Walsh:
Believe it or not, the most remarkable thing about that segment is not the snotty remarks directed at Walsh at the end, but rather the remarks he made about separating politics from economic policy. A transcript (starting at 52 seconds in):
Armey: The fact of the matter is there are income re-distributionists that think they are going to curry favor with voting blocs in both parties and it’s wrong policy whether it comes from Republicans or Democrats and it makes no sense. Armey’s Axiom- don’t let politics define your economics. Don’t let politics define anything. Politics is silly. Its inane and practitioners of politics are people to take what amusement you can from them but don’t take them seriously.
Why do I say that is the more remarkable portion? Because of this email “action” alert I was forwarded today from a reader:
Stop the Left’s Multi-Billion Dollar Handout to Liberal AlliesWe knew it was coming, and it’s finally here.
After weeks and weeks of anticipating when and how the newer, stronger Democrat-led Congress would first strike against our individual liberties and expand the size of our already bloated government, the wait is over and we now know what we are up against.
This week both the House and Senate will be moving a massive $825 billion economic stimulus package full off wasteful spending, and worse still multi-billion dollar handouts to their liberal allies. Specifically, radical Left-wing groups such as the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) could have access to billions of dollars should this stimulus plan pass.
***Despite all the talk on the Left of bipartisanship and “reaching across the aisle,” fiscally sound approaches to boosting our economy such as tax cuts and tighter spending controls were ignored by the Democrat leadership.
Fight back against the Left’s first blow against our liberties. TAKE ACTION NOW!
Sincerely,
Dick Armey
Chairman

Codex Alimentarius Re-visited
This video has been posted here before, but because of it's relevance to the last post about BIO's lobbying for cloned and genitically altered food, here it is one more time.
Dad's comment on the preceding post mentions control of the food supply where he says...
"Combine the lack of oversight of BIO with the Codex Alimentarius, you can see the corporation's plan to control the food supply!"
Yep, not to mention the water. Would we have ever imagined, 40 years ago, that we would be drinking our water out of an 8 oz. pla$tic bottle at a buck a pop instead of drinking out of the garden hose?
I found out about the food book on Dad2059’s Webzine of Science Fiction, Science Fact and Esoterica and did a couple of posts on it here and here.

FDA Opens "Pandora's Box" by Approving Food from Clones for Sale

FDA requires no tracking system for clones or labeling of products produced from clones or their offspring.
centerforfood safety.org
(January 15, 2008) Washington, DC - Today, the Center for Food Safety (CFS) condemned the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) irresponsible determination that milk and meat from cloned animals are safe for sale to the public. In addition, the FDA is requiring no tracking system for clones or labeling of products produced from clones or their offspring. This action comes at a time when the U.S. Senate has voted twice to delay FDA's decision on cloned animals until additional safety and economic studies can be completed by the National Academy of Sciences and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
"The FDA's bullheaded action today disregards the will of the public and the Senate - and opens a literal Pandora's Box," said Andrew Kimbrell, CFS Executive Director. "FDA based their decision on an incomplete and flawed review that relies on studies supplied by cloning companies that want to force cloning technology on American consumers. FDA's action has placed the interests of a handful of biotech firms above those of the public they are charged with protecting."
With FDA's release of their controversial risk assessment today, CFS joins dozens of other food industry, consumer, and animal welfare groups, as well as federal lawmakers in calling for swift action on the part of Congress to pass the 2007 Farm Bill containing provisions delaying FDA's release of clones into the food supply. The Farm Bill currently contains an amendment, advanced by Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-MD.) and co-sponsored by Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA), requiring a rigorous and careful review of the human health and economic impacts of allowing cloned food into America's food supply. The Senate overwhelmingly passed the bill by a vote of 79 to 14.

Well, here it is from the horses mouth folks. BIO bragging about their lobbying efforts during the Bu$h administration. All we can hope for is that the horse wasn't genetically altered with Bill Orielly's genes, because, needless to mention, that would be like mr. Ed's worst night mare.
Government Relations
"Most biotech observers look to Wall Street for insights on the industry's prospects, but in fact, what happens in Washington and the statehouses has a profound impact on the bottom line. In 2002, BIO's Government Relations Department won a number of legislative victories, with the signing of laws to limit liability, improve biodefense and promote biotech research. Equally important,BIO's lobbying team beat back measures that would have decimated intellectual property protection and permitted reimportation of potentially dangerous counterfeit drugs. BIO also staked out positions on issues that remain in play as of early 2003, including proposals to expand Medicare drug coverage and change stock option accounting."
Thai protests cancel Asian summit
BBC Saturday, 11 April
A summit of Asian leaders in Thailand has been cancelled after anti-government protesters broke into the venue in the resort of Pattaya.
PM Abhisit Vejjajiva declared an "extreme state of emergency" in Pattaya for several hours while the leaders were airlifted from the area.
The Association of South-East Asian Nations (Asean) summit was due to have been held on Saturday and Sunday.
Thailand has been in turmoil, with the opposition demanding fresh elections.
The BBC's Jonathan Head in Bangkok says Thais have spent months organising the summit, but security around the venue collapsed in a matter of hours as thousands pushed their way through the police cordon.

Thailand's political protesters are a colourful bunch and today was the day of the reds. It is hard to say exactly how many crammed into the normally busy streets surrounding Government House, but they came in their tens of thousands.
BBC Asia correspondent, Bangkok
Exerpt:
The most obvious icon amid the placards and signs was Thaksin Shinawatra, the prime minister deposed in a coup in 2006 and now a fugitive from Thai justice who has been stirring up the crowds for the past two weeks.
His video-linked speeches from exile have pushed the red-shirted demonstrators to a new level by naming one of country's most important statesmen as the orchestrator of that coup.
The red versus yellow divide is not just about one man - the red shirts broadly represent the poorer, more rural people who were insulted by the rhetoric the more elitist-supported yellows used in saying they did not understand politics and that the popular vote should be diluted.
That has not stopped those from Bangkok from joining a campaign which they hope will increase democracy.
Samita Khunsirasa said she came to the protest to demand that parliament be dissolved and new elections be held.

Cell Phones, Band Width, & The New World Order

MIP: the Mobile Information Project
Working with grants from the Knight Foundation and the United Nations Foundation, DataDyne.org is creating MIP: an RSS-to-SMS engine.
*
MIP lets anyone subscribe to free news channels on even the most basic cellphones
*
MIP lets organizations reach a variety of populations with targeted messages
We'll be piloting MIP in Chile starting in April 2009 as part of the DatAgro project (see links at right), in conjunction with UNESCO, la Fundación para la Innovación Agraria (FIA), and the Zoltner Consulting Group. The Datagro project will allow farmers to receive agricultural information as well as news, sports, and weather information -- all by SMS (text messaging).
MIP lets the sheeple communicate with the public, or just with other folks, somewhat like "Twitter", to type short messages (called RSS, for "Really Simple Syndication") that can be sent from MIP as text messages to subscribers. As an incentive, they can also receive messages of their choosing from the innertubes by texting simple commands to the MIP phone number.
Well, at first glance this seems like a good deal, untill we consider the trade offs, especially when considering the unlimited storage facilities on the Googleplex and, ever present, government surveillance, including spying on cell phones even when they are turned off. In fact, they are already planning to implement the technology for data collection and monitering as well as using it in third world countries for voting purposes according to a blog on the World Bank web site.
Aint this Tweet, I have twitter on the top of my website and have been bad rappin cell phones, while using Googles blogspot, which I'm pretty sure is accessable to the NWO or whaterver you call the top 5%'ers. Maybe I might as well get a cell phone too, and go out in style, at least, untill I get zapped by the damned thing...G:

Submitted by Alfredo on Fri, 03/27/2009 - 10:55.
The hype about mobile technology for development work is going on the rise. It's not for granted. More than four billion worldwide mobile subscriptions -with the fastest growth trend in developing countries-, sounds like a great opportunity to reach and interact with broader groups of people, including the poor. Actually, mobile penetration in Africa has expanded from about 2 to 28 subscribers (per 100 inhabitants) since 2000.
Some of the so called interaction mentioned is...Voice and awareness campaigns, Social participation and advocacy,Voting and participatory decision making, Public service delivery, Data collection and monitoring, and Crime denunciation.

Newt Gingrinch would use EMP weapons on Korean missiles
Here he is folks, the return of the Grinch on Faux News, to tell us all about his solutions for North Korea's missle launch, preventing the GOP from being the right wing of big government, and his recent conversion to the Catholic faith.
So...he casually tells us that if he were the potus that he would order the use of EMP weapons to take out the missle on the launch pad which is kinda scary, but not as scary as telling us that he now has Vatican connections and won't even need any tinfoil.
Yaknow, the guys head is big enough to be capable of intellectual thought, but what he is saying seems to be a bit irresponsible, even to an average senior citizen like me. From what I understand, an EMF weapon might be simpler to make than a nuclear weapon, and can probably be found in other places than just the US.

A WEAPON OF ELECTRONIC MASS DESTRUCTION
WRITTEN BY CARLO KOPP, DEFENSE ANALYST, MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA
High Power Electromagnetic Pulse generation techniques and High Power Microwave technology have matured to the point where practical E-bombs (Electromagnetic bombs) are becoming technically feasible, with new applications in both Strategic and Tactical Information Warfare. The development of conventional E-bomb devices allows their use in non-nuclear confrontations. This paper discusses aspects of the technology base, weapon delivery techniques and proposes a doctrinal foundation for the use of such devices in warhead and bomb applications.

Rep. Alan Grayson Vs. Cavuto: "A Stuck Pig Squeals Loudly"

Huffington Post
Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) is taking some heat for his bill to ban bonuses and excessive compensation for any employee at any firm benefiting from government bailout dollars. In an interview Tuesday on the Fox Business Network, Grayson was grilled by a fired-up Neil Cavuto, who called the congressman "Sweden in a suit"and said "the Constitution never gave you the damn authority of telling anyone what they should make."
In an interview with the Huffington Post, Grayson blows off the criticism.
"A stuck pig squeals loudly," the congressman says. "I'm going after some of the biggest crooks in the country and they're fighting back through people like Neil Cavuto."
Grayson's bill, the Pay for Performance Act, passed the House yesterday. He argued in an op-ed on the Huffington Post Wednesday that the bill would put an end to "theft" on Wall Street, "which is apparently the only place in the world where you can steal from the taxpayers and then bill them for services rendered."

Alan Grayson is OK in my book and makes me glad I'm a Democrat. He is fighting for the sheeple and is doing the work that needs to be done in the accountability department, yet the word is being passed around that he won't be re-elected. Why is this? Ask Dennis Kucinich or Ron Paul, or anybody that dares to show truth to power.

Well, as you probably already know, Fox News makes me feel like losing my groceries, but I had to show this video attack on Congressman Alan Grayson. This repulsive dude, Neil Cavuto, is attempting to take on the appearance of authority to trick him into giving him an absolute number on an argument that doesn't really call for anything but a relative example.
What Alan is dealing with here is known as The "Cavuto mark". Following a satirical segment proposing it on The Daily Show on September 13, 2006, the word "Cavuto" is sometimes used to refer to a question mark "used to turn any statement, no matter how outrageous, into a simple, seemingly fair, question."

April fools day, 2009
House Republicans did their best Wednesday to battle Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) on the House floor and wound up on the receiving end of some classic Frank jabs.
The bill at issue, authored by Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.), would cap executive compensation at bailed-out financial institutions and it puts the GOP in a tough spot: after expressing outrage over the AIG bonuses, it's tough to vote against the bill.
In announcing their opposition, Republicans such as Rep. John Culberson (R-Texas) took to the floor to decry the fact that the stimulus allowed the bonus payments to be made. They excoriated Democrats for not reading the full stimulus bill but said they objected to the bill on the floor that would fix the loophole that had been in the stimulus.
Frank had a field day with it.
"This is really extraordinary," he said. "What you have just heard is a denunciation of something the Congress did a few weeks ago and a refusal to undo it. I've never seen people, Mr. Chairman, so attached to something they hate. This is presumably a psychological disorder which I am not equipped to diagnose. The objection of the gentleman from Texas was that when the recovery bill was passed, it was passed too quickly [and it] included a provision that shouldn't have been in there. This bill takes it out."
